Water Polo Restaurant Halifax, Nova Scotia: A Culinary Delight on the Waterfront

Came to Halifax for a few days and absolutely wanted to try some lobster. A few locals recommended Water Polo, and I’m very glad to have has their insight. The walk along the waterfront to the restaurant is picturesque, and once you enter you’re greeted by a chic interior that feels sophisticated but approachable. A bit loud though - difficult to hear each other speaking at times. If you like a lively atmosphere you’ll love it, but it’s not personally for me. Maybe their outdoor seating would have been better, but the weather didn’t permit. Prices were very fair for the exceptional quality. The lobster was just over $60, and came with a rich butter-based sauce that made the traditional experience of having a cup of liquid butter for dipping feel crass. The meat was expertly removed and then placed back into the shell for a presentation that will become the centerpiece of the table. It was served with rich, smooth mashed potatoes and some greens that provided a reprieve from the fats. Still, I’d highly recommend a dry/acidic white wine to pair and balance the dish out! The meal came with complimentary Japanese-style milk bread buns and spicy lobster-infused olive oil with balsamic that was delish! Service was also fantastic with attendance that was prompt without being overbearing at all. Food came strikingly quickly, very nice! Overall, if you’re looking for a whole lobster in Halifax, Water Polo won’t disappoint!

Such a beautiful and classy restaurant inside and out. The food is delicious and fresh and staff are super tentative made sure our dietary restrictions were met. They also got us the lobster roll for dinner even though it wasn’t on the menu. Such a lovely spot added so much charm to the Halifax waterfront. Love this spot can’t wait to be back!

The food was terrific. It was delicious, and each dish had a generous portion. The place looks great, and the atmosphere is lovely but cozy. Finally, the service was incredible! From the welcome at the door to the great attention from our server, Holli, and the farewell when leaving the restaurant, it was a special moment for us at the end of a trip to NS for my mother-in-law, and everyone was so kind and welcoming! Great experience, definitely coming back and recommending the experience to everyone.

We visited Water Polo for the first time with my family on June 3rd. We were celebrating my husband and my mom's birthdays. Mr. Hakkan, the owner, welcomed us with a warm greeting and even brought us complimentary champagne. We still can't believe how nice that was. It was a Tuesday, but the restaurant was packed. Our server, Gabriel, ensured that our experience was fantastic, making it a memorable celebration. Our food arrived right on time, and we spent the evening enjoying ourselves. Just as we were about to check out, our server surprised us with a free dessert. All in all, we had a great first experience here, and we will definitely return!

We stopped into this place late Friday for drinks thinking this was a nice Tourist Trap like Restaurant. We ended up eating full meal and dessert. Food was top notch even unique with use of lobster infused oil. The staff was genuinely the friendliest and professional. Everything dish we tried was awesome.

yummers!! we really liked the balsamic vinegar + crab oil (?) concoction for our bread! the lobster bisque and heirloom tomato salad were really yummy! i had the lobster roll as my main course and it was delicious, however the fries were so salty like they took them outside and dipped them in the ocean. i couldn’t eat them. overall quite a yummy experience

We went out for a birthday dinner and every aspect of the experience was fantastic. The service was quick, friendly, knowledgeable… impressive would describe them best. We had drinks, starters, mains, and desert; Every plate tasted amazing! The kitchen did a perfect job cooking the beef short rib. When we got the bill we thought it was a great value for how much we ate and the quality of the food. We plan to come back in a few weeks for lunch!
